About this property

Welcome to The Garrison Hotel

Located on High Street in the heart of Fort William, The Garrison Hotel occupies a former police station building, blending a unique historic setting with modern, boutique-style interiors. The hotel features streamlined, snug rooms with quirky décor and practical layouts, although some guests have noted limited storage space and compact bathrooms. A recent renovation has introduced stylish updates, though ongoing construction noise has been reported during weekday hours.

The hotel provides several guest-friendly amenities, including free Wi-Fi, breakfast options, free parking (currently limited due to construction), an accessible environment, a restaurant, and a bar. While there is no air conditioning, fitness center, airport shuttle, or swimming pool on site, facilities cater well to families and those seeking a central location in Fort William’s lively town center. Several reviewers praised the attentive and friendly staff, as well as thoughtful touches such as welcome snacks.

Its central location makes it convenient for visitors interested in exploring local attractions, with a four-minute walk to the West Highland Museum and close proximity to Fort William Ferry Landing. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate nearby access to Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak, popular for hiking and climbing. The hotel also sits near a variety of dining options and essential amenities, providing a practical base for discovering the Highlands.

The bed was very comfortable, I slept really well. The shower was great with good water pressure. The team weee friendly. The hotel is going through renovations, so breakfast is limited to a filled roll. If you want a quieter night, I would try and request a room at the back of the hotel. My room was ground floor and facing the loch. So in the morning you get the traffic noice. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a nice stay off season at the garrison this January. Great location. We were lucky to find a spot to park our car there the parking lot is limited. Room overall was good, bathroom didn’t have many areas to set or store things but overall, great experience there!

The Garrison Hotel is undergoing renovation at the time we stayed there, so the restaurant was closed, but breakfast was still available. The renovations are very stylish and modern. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The issues I had was that there were no chest of drawers or wardrobe in which to put your clothes. So you literally are living out of your suitcase. The bathroom is very tight. The shower has a shower curtain, and consequently water goes across the bathroom floor. There is a sign on the shower stall about this. The sink is right up against the wall and difficult to shave in front of, and the lighting is poor over the mirror. This is a shame as otherwise the room is very nice.

This was our second stay at The Garrison - the last visit was 4 years ago, we are a couple in our 30s with a dog who stayed for 6 nights in early November. Overall; we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. Liked: - We absolutely loved the breakfast every day and looked forward to it. The breakfast couldn’t actually be much better, you get SO much and it’s all delicious and great quality and a lot of choice too, I would definitely add it on if you’re booking, it’s so so worth it. They were even so kind as to offer options for our dog daily. - the style of the rooms is nice - staff are helpful and nice - rooms are nice and warm with good heating, but also have a desktop style fan which was handy. - the construction noise was super loud on our side of the building (just on weekdays around 8am - 4pm - not sure how long it is happening for) and was distressing our dog, but the staff were kind enough to change our room to the other side of the building and we didn’t hear any more noise during our stay - welcome tray with snack bars, crisps and drinks is very thoughtful - windows in room open which is good - location is so good, there are so many great places to eat nearby (Ben Nevis Bar & Black Isle Pizza were our faves) - there’s so many takeaways, shops, pharmacy, post office etc - everything you need is just within minutes walk away, we really like Fort William as a base for exploring Glencoe and the highlands. Didn’t like / criticisms: - I personally don’t like the shower curtains as it’s the kind that clings to you when you shower, so I think a more plastic / structured style would be better - there was construction at the hotel so only part of the carpark was available to use, we were only advised of this by email the day before our stay, which wasn’t ideal as we have an electric car and also then had to pay for parking many of the nights / days of our 6 day stay. the public carpark is nearby though, but the nearest public charging point is not super close, it’s about 5 mins drive but you can only charge for 45 minutes at a time. - I do think a bigger clothing rail and a bench could be added to the side of the room where the existing rail is, for more storage, however the under bed storage space is handy - we didn’t like the pillows, it would be great to have some thicker ones or the ability to request thicker ones if needed - the doors aren’t very soundproof, you can hear other peoples doors slam (this caused our dog to bark a lot)

We really enjoyed our overall experience at the Garrison, the room that we had was very warm and cosy, with a super clean bathroom and rainfall shower. The two women from reception who we interacted with were both very pleasant to talk to. The only thing that stops my review from being 5 stars was the fact that the restaurant was closed for renovations - breakfast was brought to our room in bags. It was nice being able to choose our order from a small menu (and choose what time to have it brought to the room) but the food quality definitely could've been better.

We visited as a family for 4 nights during Feb , which is off peak season. Booked a 2 bed apartment which is on the road behind the actual hotel. Not very clear on the site used for booking. After booking , some days later we received an email warning us of construction works and noise taking place. Turns out they are building an extension between the hotel and the apartment unit. Anyways all went smoothly and upon arrival at our place there was a modern apartment freshly decorated Issue being that they had used a strong oil based paint and the smell was terrible so we had to request a move and was told , it was painted a week ago!!! I guess none of the staff had been there recently to check if it was habitable. We were offered a room in the main building with sofa bed for our son which we made work , excluding the paint smell. My wife did hear another guest also complaining about the paint smell 2 days later. There was sign in the lift saying breakfast was available but the area for this seemed to be closed. The construction workers were not present at weekend so all good , but weekdays they arrived and started playing the radio at full blast from 7am this then meant that everyone was awake. Guess that when the works are completed it will be a suitable place to spend your time , being very central to the Fort William high street with several places to visit for food and drinks within a short walk , price was reasonable , although parking at the main hotel was restricted to a small number of parking places. Apartments had suffient parking spots for the number of available suites.

We stayed in The Garrison Suites, Fort William, in one of the suite rooms and honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. The room itself was stunning — spacious, spotless, beautifully finished, with exceptionally comfortable beds and a fantastic TV setup that made it very hard to leave the room once we were in it. What truly sets this place apart though is the staff. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive — not the forced kind, but the rare “they actually care” kind. And a special mention for how sensationally dog-friendly this hotel is. Our dog was treated like royalty, right down to hand-delivered cooked square sausage served in his own bowl. That level of thoughtfulness is something you don’t forget. Beautiful accommodation, outstanding service, and a place that understands dogs are family. We’ll absolutely be back — and so will our very spoiled retriever.

Came from the United States for a few concerts. This was our first hotel stay in Scotland. We traveled with luggage and extra bags. The room was a bit small for two people and luggage, but we made it work and was not an issue for us. The staff was amazing and friendly. The breakfast was nothing short of amazing. We found plenty to do in town for the two nights we were there. Locals were super friendly, and just overall a great experience. 9/10 highly recommend!
